The Great King Raja Raja Chola

RAJA RAJA CHOLAN - 1

Earlier life:

     Raja Raja Chola-1 was a Tamil emperor living in the period of 947 to 1014 AD. His real name was Arulmozhivarman and he has an elder brother named as Adhitya Chola and an elder sister named as Kundhavai Pirattiyar. 

     He was not a king at the beginning, his elder brother Adhitya Chola was the king at first. He was assassinated in a time. After the Raja Raja Chola was selected as the King by Democratic method.  'Just imagine democracy before 1000years before' What a great thing was that!!  His sister Kundhavai was the best adviser for Raja Raja Chola.

His Sister: 

     Kundhavai is the minister of Chola country and personal advisor to the king.  She guides him in various situations in war battles also.  She is not at the battle, but she stay back to him and make the correct decissions, ideas and tricks to win the battle.  A woman has such power at that period that was very an awesome thing.  

Military Power:

     Rajaraja Chola military was very powerful and large number of soldiers in his military.  Once a time he captured the another great kings such as Cheras and Pandyas, after that he was called as Mummudi Chola (King of three crowns).  

     After 8 years of reign he captured half of the Sri Lanka.  He has very powerful navy so that he captured Maldives  also. Maldives is very long distance approximately 1000KM. This shows his miltary and navy power.

     When Chola go for a war to a country the land starts vibrate.The people in that country think that was an earthquake, but actually it was the military power of Chola.

Religious policy:

     He was a great follower of Saivism belongs to Shiva. He spreads saivism along the countries where he captured.
